The local media and community members joined together on January 11th for the 10th Annual Press Conference of SFCAHT where leading anti-trafficking advocates, service providers, survivors and Bay Area top government and law enforcement officials announced their priorities for the year in fighting modern-day slavery.

We kicked off the month long awareness campaign and honored the 2019 Modern-Day Abolitionist Award winners: Justice at Last’s Founder, Executive Director and Lead Attorney Rose Mukhar and San Mateo County Human Trafficking Program Coordinator John Vanek.

At this event, we also presented Inspiring Leadership Awards to the past co-chairs of SFCAHT: Nancy Goldberg, Catherine Dodd, Nancy Kirshner-Rodriguez, Julie Soo, and Marianna Warmee.

Our keynote speaker was Ima Matul, human trafficking survivor-advocate and consultant, Coordinator of the Survivor Leadership Program at the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking (CAST). Our other featured speakers included: FBI Special Agent in Charge John Bennett, San Francisco Superior Court Judge Susan Breall, Deputy Public Defender Patti Lee and Generations United Inc.’s Programs Director Benita Hopkins.
